Hayzel started of his week with a bang! On Monday, after a few minutes of reviewing, Hayzel completed his first Chapter Test in math. He did 24 questions in just over fifteen minutes.
He got a 100!
At this age I celebrate his scores because I feel that after all his hard work he deserves to be recognized. I clapped and whooped and danced him around the room. That’s pretty much it. After a while, we settled down for some more work.
First he did Language Arts. He did a module on Long a (ā) sound as in ape, snail, ache, and explain. Followed by worksheets.
followed by some worksheets. He also did another Ocean module in T4L.
Next he completed some geography work and did a Ocean module on T4L.
Afterwards he did some marine animal crafts which I you can check out here.
He finished out his day by watching Finding Nemo before bedtime.
And yes, Nemo is educational in the sense that he is learning about Oceans and marine animals and the movie ties it in pretty well. So there!
Tuesday, Hayzel did a module on diagraph
ch, which makes the /ch/ sound as in watch, chick, chimpanzee, and champion.
This was a short day as I had some errands to run all day.
Wednesday, Hayzel started his second math chapter which focuses on Fractions. Hayzel picked up the concept right away and completed 2 out of 4 modules, including the supplemental worksheets and the lesson quizzes.
Afterwards he did a module on Marine Animals in T4L and learned about the coral reef and its inhabitants.
The weather that day was really overcast which puts me in a recluse kind of mood and I was hoping for actual rain so the tball practice was cancelled, but I rarely get my wishes granted. So…
He got to be the pitcher!
On Thursday, Hayzel did a review of diagraphs:
He also did the third module in his math chapter.
Laid back while taking a quiz. "I got this mommy."
He had dance class in the afternoon.
For dinner that night, Hayzel and I made pizzas and he help cut them into halves, thirds, and fourths. This tied in pretty well with the fractions chapter.
Friday was big co op day. We had a Kid City theme. With the help of boxes and various art supplies each kid worked on building something to contribute to the city. Hayzel decided to build a post office.
Somebody even made a park!
Jayden's Pizza store, with Hayzel's Post Office in the back. The green tape represents the street. Too cute!
I really liked this co op. Hayzel brought his post office home and has been playing with it ever since.
We have now completed our first month of the 2012-2013 school year at Oak Ridge. Things have been settling in nicely and I feel we have a good rhythm going. I’m learning as much as Hayzel is. My organizational and planning skills have been put to work, but everyday I feel more and more confident in the material I set out for Hayzel. He seems to be learning things left and right.
I’ll leave you with summary of T4L’s weeks 3 and 4 report.
