After lunch the kids went in for a cooking workshop. They made cookies called Jumbles using utensils from the 1800s.
The recipe called for 1 egg, 1c flour, 1/4c butter, 1/2c powdered sugar, 1/2tsp rosewater, 1/2tsp nutmeg, and 1/2tsp cinnamon.
While the cookies were in the oven the kids made lemonade. The recipe, adapted from The Cooks Oracle, 1823 calls for one tbsp of citric acid with a few drops of quintessence of lemon peel. Mix by degrees with a pint of water, sweetened to your taste.
And finally it was time to taste their creation.
Hayzel didn’t necessarily like the cookies, but it was a great experience anyway.
Stayed tuned for part 3.
