It was a pretty quiet month for us. I ended up taking on 2 (!!) part time jobs, so a majority of the time I was working. I got a temporary at home job during the week working for a flower delivery company. Hayzel spent his days with friend Jayden and Caitlin during work hours. My second job is taking care of a sweet Russian lady at her home, overnight on the weekends. For the at home job I was actually working 40+ hours for the 2 weeks leading up to and the week after Christmas. Thankfully, those hours have been reduced to 4 per week until it picks back up again for Valentine’s Day.
Hayzel did his schooling in the company of J & C and overseen by the lovely Tania. In Math he mastered multiple addends, moved on to 2 digit and 3 digit addition (no regrouping yet) and went on to master that skill as well. He is currently working on 1 digit word problems. For LA he is doing a half year review that will continue for another week or so after the break. In Geography, Hayzel has completed Evan-Moor’s Beginning Geography. He learned many new things from this book such as map skills, landforms and bodies of water, as well as continents and oceans. For the next 6 months we will be working our way through Confessions of Homeschooler’s Road Trip USA.
Below are some pictures from December.
The first was the tree lighting ceremony in a nearby town. Unfortunately my camera died before the lighting actually happened but I did get some good pics of the festivities prior.
Another day, while I was working, Tania took the kids to their dads’ job for a Christmas party. J &C’s dad works in the same place as Sr. so it worked out pretty well.
Hayzel had a tough time after coming back from vacation in November. His behavior was not his best and he had a hard time pulling himself together for school, so his being on Santa’s Nice List was a little iffy. Thankfully with the help of one of Santa’s elves (Tania), he received a warning letter from Santa that set him on the straight and narrow.

Hayzel has been anxiously waiting for the new Wii U for over 2 years. Since it was announced at the E3 Expo in 2010, Hayzel has been poring over YouTube videos that has anything related to the new Wii. So that was his big anticipated gift this year. I did something a bit different this year. I heard from a friend a new concept of gifting that prevents parent from overspending on their kids.He got a new BeyBlade and the SuperMario 2 game for his 3DS.
Hayzel got 4 presents this year
I love the idea. Honestly though, all he cared about was that Wii.
- something he wants
- something he needs
- something he wears
- something he reads
This is his something to read:
His something to wear:
something he needs (snow boots):
and finally something he wants:
Oh wait, I lied. We also got him a game to with the Wii and a BeyBlade Stadium.
The we went upstairs to open his gifts from Juan and Tania.
Christmas Day we went to my mom’s house as Sr. was working. Hayzel got to spend time with his cousins playing with his new hot wheels track that Mama Julia got him.
Showing grandma some love.
We took a break from school for Christmas and New Years. Hayzel spent the week in between the holidays getting acquainted with his new gaming system. For New Year’s Eve he went to my mom’s for a sleepover with his cousins while Sr. and I worked.
Hayzel Sr. came home from work early on the 2nd with the flu. The past few days have not been fun. Thankfully Jr. and I were spared and just have some bad colds.
School resumes next week!
