York’s Wild Kingdom

One Tuesday in July Hayzel Sr. took the day off of work and joined us for a trip to York, ME.

York’s Wild Kingdom is a zoo/amusement park that is about a 40 minute ride from home. This was our first time visiting and we love it so much that it’s sure to become a yearly destination for our family. We arrived around noon time and headed to the zoo first.

45 minutes after we arrived at the zoo, we sat down to watch an animal show. The show was just getting interesting when a storm flew in out of nowhere. Within a matter of minutes everyone in the zoo started running to their cars. We made it back to ours just as the rain started. It was a pretty good soaker but we decided to wait the storm out, because after paying $50 there was no way we were just going to get 45 minutes out of them. I had the foresight to pack lunch, so we sat in the back of the car and ate picnic style.  Around 2pm the rain ended and we headed back in. We took advantage that the park was nearly empty to enjoy some rides.

After about 3 hours of enjoying the rides, we headed back into the zoo to look at some more animals before it closed.

After the zoo and quick trip to the gift shop, we left with just about 30 minutes before the park closed . It was such a great day, that none of us wanted to go home. So instead we headed over to check out a local lighthouse.

That day was one of the nicest family days in recent history. At age 5, Hayzel is old (and tall) enough to get on most rides and just young enough to enjoy the thrill and not be afraid. We have a 2 week vacation coming up and I can’t wait for more family outings.
